Nuclear weapons experts believe that Israel is building a major new structure at an existing facility believed to be used for Israel’s suspected nuclear weapons program. Satellite images show new construction at the Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center outside of Dimona, Israel.
Seven nuclear weapons experts who the Associated Press consulted about the images agreed that this was new construction related to the suspected Israeli nuclear weapons program, but disagreed on the exact purpose of the new construction.

Three of them said that this was most likely a new heavy water reactor facility used in the production of plutonium and other nuclear weapons materiel.
Four others, while acknowledging the viability of the first hypothesis, speculated that the new construction could also be intended for nuclear weapons assembly.
Israel neither confirms nor denies that it has a nuclear weapons program.
