NIH scientists publish declaration criticizing Trump’s deep cuts in public health research

Scores of scientists at the National Institutes of Health sent a letter titled the Bethesda Declaration to criticize policies that undermine the department’s mission and health globally. The letter claims that “NIH trials are being halted without regard to participant safety,” raising concerns about ethics in research.

NIH employees have expressed a “culture of fear and suppression” in the federal civil service under President Donald Trump’s administration.
