Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem agreed to testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee on March 3. She’s expected to answer questions about how her department has handled immigration enforcement and the related protests and shootings in Minnesota.
Senators will have 10 minutes to question Noem, who maintains that Alex Pretti, the ICU nurse shot and killed by Border Patrol agents, was a domestic terrorist and a threat to officers. That claim has been disputed by bystander footage, which shows Pretti was holding a cell phone and never reached for his gun, which he had a license to carry.

Noem is facing increased calls for her impeachment or resignation after the shootings. Senate Democrats also threatened to withhold funding to the Department of Homeland Security after the shooting.
Ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., said he was disappointed Noem was not available to testify sooner.
“With all of the violence and deaths involving DHS, the Secretary is apparently in no hurry to account for her mismanagement of this national crisis. And she expects us to rubber stamp her record-breaking budget in the meantime,” Durbin said.
