Zohran Mamdani hosted a breakfast organized by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in Washington, D.C., to build support from congressional Democrats. Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, met privately with progressive House Democrats to discuss his campaign strategy and digital messaging, according to multiple attendees.

Mamdani’s primary victory has raised questions about a potential left-leaning shift in the national Democratic Party and has garnered attention from influential lawmakers.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez organized the breakfast to focus on Mamdani’s surprise primary win and his cost-of-living campaign, which some view as a model for upcoming elections.

Emerging from a June primary shock, the state lawmaker aimed to allay concerns and win over some Democratic holdouts, prompting the Wednesday meeting.

Politico reported, however, that U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries is holding off on an endorsement, at least for now.
