Hundreds of thousands of Gaza City residents lost access to clean water after Israeli military actions damaged the pipeline operated by state-owned Mekorot, which had been supplying 70% of the city’s water, according to municipal authorities.

Water supply rates declined to an average of 3-5 liters per person per day, which is below the World Health Organization’s minimum requirement of 15 liters, authorities said. Residents reported a severe thirst crisis in Gaza. Israel’s military said it is in contact with organizations to coordinate the repair of the pipeline, according to Reuters.
