FBI Director Kash Patel says he has turned over FBI memos to Congress which allegedly indicate then-Representative Adam Schiff approved “leaking” intelligence regarding Russia’s attempts to interfere in the U.S. 2016 elections on behalf of Donald Trump. According to Just the News, Schiff and U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) officials agreed that disclosing the alleged information would be protected under the Constitution’s speech and debate clause.

Schiff also reportedly believed that the information was important enough to be used in an indictment against President Trump and that it should be disclosed.

A former staffer for the U.S. House Intelligence Committee is reportedly behind the memos, although the individual’s name has been redacted from interview records. The staffer, contrary to DOJ and Schiff’s legal opinions, allegedly believed that the leaks were “illegal” and even “treasonous.”

Details about the supposed leaks themselves, and exactly what information might have been involved, remain unclear.
