Over half of Americans view President Donald Trump as a “dangerous dictator,” according to a poll by the Public Religion Research Institute. A majority, 55%, agree that Trump overstepped his authority by ordering mass firings of federal employees across government agencies.
Likewise, in response to comments about the two-term president running again in 2028, PRRI found that 79% of respondents oppose amending the Constitution to permit a president to serve more than two terms.
Meanwhile, around 90% of Democrats said Trump is a threat to American democracy, a sentiment Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., has echoed when he calls Trump an “authoritarian president.”
