A new report is shedding light on the family separations that were a significant cornerstone of immigration policy during Donald Trump’s first term. The report, entitled “We Need to Take Away Children: Zero Accountability Six Years After ‘Zero Tolerance,’” totals 131 pages, and was a joint effort by Human Rights Watch, the Texas Civil Rights Project and Yale Law School’s Lowenstein International Human Rights Clinic.
According to the report, many families experienced prolonged separation, with roughly 1,360 children yet to be reunited with their parents. Between 2017 and 2018, an estimated 4,600 migrant children were separated from their families.
