The U.S. Senate’s health committee approved Susan Monarez to be the director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, moving her closer to confirmation. The committee voted 12-11 to advance Monarez’s nomination to the full Senate.
Monarez is set to become the first CDC director confirmed under a 2023 law regarding such appointments.
Sen. Bernie Sanders stated that Monarez has not opposed actions taken by Kennedy during her tenure as acting CDC director. She has served in that role since January.
