U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) said in an interview with CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Nov. 16 that U.S. President Donald Trump has no “end game…with respect to Venezuela.” Her comments come as the U.S. increases its force posture outside of Venezuela and observers warn of a potential U.S. invasion.
Sen. Shaheen is one of only a handful of lawmakers to have met privately with the president and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss U.S. military activities in the Caribbean. She is the senior ranking member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

“[The Trump administration is] escalating in a way…that puts at risk our men and women in the military,” Shaheen continued.
By moving so many military assets into the Caribbean, Shaeen explained, “we don’t have any firepower, really, in the Middle East as we look at the threats there. We don’t have what we need, I think, in the Indo-Pacific or in Europe. And so what the President has done here is to put at risk other parts of the world and Americans in other parts of the world for this fascination on trying to get rid of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela.”
