Some Republican Senators are reportedly hesitant to support Tulsi Gabbard for director of national intelligence due to concerns about her past positions and affiliations. Several GOP leaders view Gabbard’s political history with skepticism, leading to questions about her viability as a candidate.
Likewise, her status as an Independent complicates her standing within the Republican party. According to Reuters, eight GOP Senators are expressing reservations about Gabbard’s nomination. If all eight voted against Gabbard, President-elect Donald Trump would need the support of five Democrats to get her confirmed.
