Students at Florida State University urged state lawmakers to reject a law that would lower the gun purchasing age from 21 to 18. The request comes after a shooting on FSU’s campus killed two and injured six others.

The suspect in the shooting, 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, used his stepmother’s former service weapon and is expected to survive his injuries.

Andres Perez shared his fear during the shooting, saying, “I never thought I’d find myself locked inside a classroom, texting loved ones.”

Former Parkland student Jaclyn Corin criticized the potential law change, stating that lowering the age would dishonor the lives lost in previous mass shootings.
