Parts of Alaska will be under a heat advisory for the first time ever, according to the National Weather Service. The first advisory is for Fairbanks, where temperatures are expected to exceed 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
The National Weather Service warns that increasing temperatures could be dangerous for residents not accustomed to heat. Heat advisories can be issued for Juneau and Fairbanks, but not for Anchorage. Researchers noted that the swap from special weather statements to advisories isn’t specifically about climate change, and reflects an administrative change.
