Thousands of toxic or hazardous sites across the United States might flood as sea levels continue rising, a new report warns. Over 5,500 hazardous sites across the U.S. might be vulnerable to a 100-year flood before 2100, while at least 3,800 sites are projected to flood before 2050, according to ABC News.
The report’s abstract states that seven U.S. states — Louisiana, Florida, New Jersey, Texas, New York, California and Massachusetts — account for almost 80% of all at-risk sites.
