Tim Walz was introduced as “Command Sergeant Major” at the Democratic National Convention, despite not retiring with that title from the Minnesota National Guard. The introduction occurred amidst criticisms of “stolen valor” for Walz using the title frequently in his political career.
A woman introduced him at the event, emphasizing the title, even though Walz retired as a “master sergeant.” His provisional promotion was rescinded just one day before he retired, on May 15, 2005.
