White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the Trump administration is “not afraid to use denaturalization” to strip citizenship from Somali Americans in Minnesota. White House also posted a Pixar-style AI video targeting Somalis, depicting a group of Somali men traveling to Minnesota to defraud state daycare programs.

Minnesota has been under scrutiny for several weeks over what people perceived as the state’s supposed indifference to the alleged misuse of public funds. Federal investigations into childcare fraud have implicated many Somali individuals, with over 78 defendants charged, leading to suspensions of federal funding in Minnesota.

Walz pushed back on claims by the Trump administration that the state had not aggressively pursued fraud cases because many of the people involved are of Somali origin. Most are U.S. citizens, either by birth or naturalization.
