President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social in April that he nominated Mark Walker as the new United States ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom. Walker previously served as director of outreach for faith and minority communities during the Trump campaign.

Walker, a former pastor who was North Carolina’s U.S. representative from 2015 through 2021, thanked the president for choosing him on X. According to the State Department, the Office of International Religious Freedom “promotes universal respect for freedom of religion or belief for all as a core objective of U.S. foreign policy.”
