A U.S. appeals court sided with the Trump administration in its battle against Planned Parenthood, blocking Medicaid funds from being distributed to the reproductive health services agency. The ruling comes as courts weigh the legality of spending cuts in Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill, which impacts health care services that provide abortion services.
The mandate goes into effect on October 1. Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood said the decision will impact more than 1.1 million patients.
“Patients who rely on the essential health care that Planned Parenthood health centers provide, can’t plan for their futures, decide where they go for care, or control their lives, bodies, and futures — all because the Trump administration and its backers want to attack Planned Parenthood and shut down health centers,” Alexis McGill Johnson, Planned Parenthood CEO, said in a statement. The agency noted that at least 200 centers are at risk of closure because of the ruling.
