In a recent social media post, President Donald Trump shared a claim alleging that former President Barack Obama received royalties from the federal government for the use of the term “Obamacare.” The statement quickly drew attention online but was later traced back to the satirical website The Dunning-Kruger Times, which has published similar fabricated stories in the past.

“He’s been collecting it since 2010, for a total of $40 million in taxpayer dollars,” Trump said in a Truth Social post. Multiple fact-checkers have previously debunked the claim.

Legal and intellectual property experts have clarified that such a scenario is not possible, as individuals cannot trademark or profit from the names of federal government programs, which remain public property.
