President Donald Trump said he will not be making Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent the “AI czar,” a role he announced a week ago.
Semafor and Reuters both reported Trump was weighing Bessent for the position. But the president denied this in a post on Truth Social.
“Number One, he doesn’t want to. Number Two, he’s doing such a great job at Treasury, and that’s where I want to keep him!” Trump wrote. “Why would I ever make such a change?”
Trump previously said on social media he intends to form an “AI Force,” comparing it to Space Force, which was established during his first term.
“To that end, I will be announcing, in the near future, the AI ‘Czar’ — Only High I.Q. individuals need apply!” he wrote on Truth Social.
In an earlier post, Trump asked the public to weigh in on a new name for artificial intelligence, suggesting “Superior Intelligence,” “Extreme Intelligence” or “Supreme Intelligence” as alternatives.
