Trump says Hamas must be ‘destroyed’ before hostages freed

President Donald Trump in a social media post said hostages held in Gaza will only be released once Hamas is “confronted and destroyed.” “The sooner this takes place, the better the chances of success will be,” Trump wrote.

The statement comes on the heels of the Trump administration halting negotiations in Qatar last month to end the war. Despite Israeli protests on Sunday and calls to end the war, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue military operations until the hostages have been freed and Hamas defeated.

Meanwhile, Hamas has said the remaining hostages will be released once a ceasefire deal has been reached and the Israeli military withdraws from Gaza.
