Tylenol says White House used old Twitter post ‘out of context’

President Trump and Trump administration health officials announced on Sept. 22 that they are recommending pregnant women refrain from using acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol. The administration made the new recommendation based on a suggestion that Tylenol causes autism, despite no causal evidence indicating a connection, as noted by The Hill.

Trump’s Department of Health and Human Services then shared a social media post from Tylenol in 2017 where Tylenol states that the drug is not specifically recommended for pregnant women.

Tylenol says the old post was taken out of context, and insists that acetaminophen is in fact safe for pregnant women to use within standard dosage guidelines.

Kenvue, the maker of Tylenol, clarified their stance: “We do not make recommendations on taking any medications in pregnancy because that is the job of a healthcare provider.”
