Small business optimism remains above the historical average at 102.8 but fell by 2.3 points in January, according to the National Federation of Independent Business. Nearly 40% of small business owners rate inflation and a tight labor market as their top concerns, according to the survey.


NFIB Chief Economist Bill Dunkelberg noted that hiring challenges frustrate owners as they seek qualified workers for open positions.


Uncertainty among small business owners has risen, with the NFIB’s Uncertainty Index climbing 14 points to 100, reflecting growing concerns about future conditions.
