The State Department found no evidence linking Rumeysa Ozturk to antisemitism or terrorism. It recommended her visa not be revoked, according to The Washington Post.
Despite this lack of evidence, immigration officials detained Ozturk, forcing her into a car outside her home. Video footage caught the arrest on camera.
While in detention, Ozturk suffered from four asthma attacks due to lack of necessary medication, reported her legal team.
Advocates argued that her detention violates free speech rights, as she co-authored an op-ed urging divestment from companies with ties to Israel.
