President Donald Trump has ordered U.S. naval and air forces to the Southern Caribbean Sea to enhance surveillance of Latin American drug cartels. Several cartels have been designated as terrorist organizations by the Trump administration.

The move is part of a broader effort to limit migration to the United States. Spy planes, warships and submarines are in place in the region to make strikes on the groups if the decision is made in Washington.

“This deployment is aimed at addressing threats to U.S. national security from specially designated narco-terrorist organizations in the region,” a source familiar with the operation said.
