U.S. Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., argued that Americans would be “justified” in shooting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents if they believed they were “masked hoodlums” attacking them.
“If you were attacked by a masked person, you might think you were being kidnapped,” Nadler said. “You would be justified in shooting the person to protect yourself.”

Nadler later walked back his comments, saying he was not advocating violence but calling on ICE to stop using lethal force against citizens.
Vice President JD Vance criticized Nadler’s remarks as “despicable,” expressing concern over escalating tensions between law enforcement and citizens.
“Jerry Nadler is one of the highest ranking Democrats in the House of Representatives and he is openly calling for people to shoot federal law enforcement,” Vance posted on X. “This is despicable behavior from an elected official and I’m sure the leftwing media will cover it extensively.”
