Three U.S. senators expressed concern over Paramount’s settlement efforts with President Donald Trump. They said the efforts could violate bribery laws and impede Paramount’s $8 billion merger with Skydance Media.
Paramount is mediating with Trump over a lawsuit seeking at least $20 billion, based on allegations of deceitful editing in a CBS interview.
The senators warned that if Paramount’s concessions to Trump are aimed at influencing his administration, it may constitute improper conduct regarding merger approval.
They urged Paramount’s Chair Shari Redstone not to capitulate to Trump’s claims against press freedom and cautioned against giving him billions over a dubious lawsuit.
