U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in the United Arab Emirates after high-level talks with Russia regarding Ukraine, marking significant outreach since the invasion began in 2022. Rubio’s discussions occurred amidst a tense ceasefire situation between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, with the U.S. aiming to maintain this ceasefire.


Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Sheikh Mohammed earlier this week, and Abu Dhabi is being considered as a potential venue for peace talks to resolve the ongoing war in Ukraine as it approaches its three-year mark. Rubio visited the Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi, which features a Catholic church, a Jewish synagogue and an Islamic mosque, promoting interfaith dialogue.
