The inspector general of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Phyllis Fong, was escorted out of her office after refusing to comply with her firing by the Trump administration. Fong had been with the department for 22 years and intended to stay after Trump fired 17 inspector generals at various government agencies.

The USDA Inspector General’s office deals with food safety and investigations, including a 2022 probe into Elon Musk’s Neuralink for animal welfare violations.

The White House defended the firings, stating that “these rogue, partisan bureaucrats… have been relieved of their duties.”
