A judge in Utah has rejected a new congressional map proposed by Republicans that would have maintained an all-Republican Utah representation in the U.S. House. Judge Dianna Gibson ruled that the map proposed by Republicans constituted gerrymandering, saying that it “unduly favors Republicans and disfavors Democrats,” according to The Associated Press.

The judge ultimately sided with a map drawn up collaboratively by the League of Women Voters of Utah and Mormon Women for Ethical Government.

Gibson previously struck down the current map in August, determining that it did not comply with the anti-gerrymandering measures approved by Utah voters and ordering that a new map be drawn up for 2026.

“The nature of the violation lies in the Legislature’s refusal to respect the people’s exercise of their constitutional lawmaking power and to honor the people’s right to reform their government,” Gibson said in that ruling.
