Vice President JD Vance stated that it takes two times a husband’s and wife’s combined income to buy a new house today, highlighting housing affordability issues. He argued that a mass influx of illegal immigration is a significant factor driving up housing prices, affecting American citizens’ ability to afford homes.

“When we talk about housing and why costs are so high, we don’t talk enough about demand. And one of the drivers of increased housing demand,” Vance said Monday, March 10. “And one of the drivers of increased housing demand, we know is that we’ve got a lot of people over the last four years who have come into the country illegally, and that’s something we have to work on if we want to meaningfully reduce the cost of housing too.”

During a speech, Vance expressed a desire to restore the American dream for blue-collar workers, emphasizing the need for better border security to ensure safer and more affordable communities.

Vance remarked that under President Donald Trump, border crossings dropped significantly, which aimed to make housing more affordable for Americans.
