Wisconsin voters rejected two ballot measures aimed at limiting the governor’s power to spend money, according to Decision Desk HQ. The Republican-led state legislature proposed these measures to restrict Gov. Tony Evers (D) and future governors from appropriating funds without legislative approval. One measure sought to prevent the legislature from delegating its appropriation authority, while the other would have required legislative approval for unallocated federal funds. Critics argued the measures would hinder emergency responses. The defeat comes as new legislative maps may improve Democrats’ chances in future elections.
