President-elect Donald Trump held a press conference at Mar-a-Lago just one day after Congress formally certified his victory. He reiterated some controversial ideas he’s championed since defeating Vice President Kamala Harris on Nov. 5, including proposals to acquire Greenland and the Panama Canal. Trump also outlined plans to establish data centers funded by Dubai investors and renewed his plea for Hamas to release the hostages taken on Oct. 7, 2023.

They’ll start, I believe, with a bill that involves the border, getting control again of our own country. Then they’ll move towards a very large tax cut and regulatory reform bill designed to really get the economy growing in the way that Ronald Reagan did in the 1980s, and if they can pull those two off, they’ll be in pretty good shape going into 2026 — to be able to continue to move the country towards a more dynamic America with a smaller federal government and a larger element of freedom for all Americans.
It’s a very exciting time. I think the inauguration is going to be remarkable. And I think people are looking forward to really, a dramatic improvement in American life, a dramatic increase in our economic strength and ability to deal with some of the affordability issues that we’ve really hurt [sic] so many Americans, and I look forward very much to seeing how all of this develops. So this week, we’re moving in the right direction, in the not-very distant future, the inauguration of Donald J. Trump.
