Why Republicans won’t admit who won 2020 election

President Joe Biden defeated former President Donald Trump in the U.S. 2020 election by margins of 74 votes in the Electoral College and over 7 million votes in the national popular vote count. Despite these outcomes, many elected Republican officials continue to refuse to acknowledge the winner of the 2020 election. During his debate with Democratic presidential candidate Tim Walz, Republican candidate JD Vance avoided saying that Trump lost when asked about the outcome of that election

The following is an excerpt from the above video:

Now, why won’t they simply say [Biden won]? There are two, maybe three reasons. We’ll call it two and a half. Number one, they are performing for an audience of one, the most important audience, which is Donald Trump himself. Tom Cotton, the stakes don’t seem as high. JD Vance, he’s Trump’s running mate. He doesn’t want to piss him off. So number one, this is about performing for Trump, and total and ultimate loyalty, even if it makes you look like a buffoon.

Number two, the more people they can get continuing to think that 2020 was stolen, the more likely it is there will be tolerance or even support for Trump trying to take the 2024 election.

Now, unlike Trump, who says I can only lose if it’s rigged, I believe Trump might win and he might lose. If Trump wins, it would be a fair win. I don’t believe Trump will steal it if it turns out on election night or the next morning [that] he has 270 electoral votes. I think he might win. I think he might lose. I think Kamala Harris might win or she might lose. But what Donald Trump is trying to do by having his surrogates continue to deny that he simply lost is manufacture consent that you should still be mad about 2020, and you should let me do whatever I can think of doing this time around if it looks like I lost, and that’s a very dangerous thing that we need to be prepared for.
