With President Trump, learn to take the good with the bad

All opinions expressed in this article are solely the opinions of the contributors.

President Donald Trump’s second term has already been defined by sharp polarization, with Democrats warning of a constitutional crisis and the destruction of vital federal programs even as Republicans celebrate progress on key initiatives like ending DEI nationwide. Amidst the division, those voters who find themselves agreeing with some of Trump’s actions while disagreeing with others can sometimes struggle to be heard in between the louder, more dominant voices of the Democratic and Republican camps.

Watch the above video as Straight Arrow News contributor Ruben Navarrette offers his review of what he says Donald Trump got right in his first few weeks as opposed to what he says he got wrong. In the end, Navarrette says, most Americans will have to “take the good with the bad” over the next four years.

The following is an excerpt from the above video:

Now, about a decade ago, at a conference out West, I heard a state attorney general, a big, burly guy with a linebacker build and muscles bulging under his suit, talk openly about how he was known to cry in public. The tears only flowed, he explained, when he was talking about one of three things: my family, my country, or my God. It wasn’t until many years later that, upon reflection, I realized what all those things have in common. They all made him look small by comparison, tiny, even. That brings perspective. Accepting that perspective will make a guy humble. Sometimes it’ll even make him cry.

Let’s focus on the second item on the crying list: country. The proper proportion of a president to this country, the United States, is about one to 1 million. The best presidents, the best leaders, the best shepherds, all understand this.

Fact: The United States is enormous. You are minuscule. The sooner you get that, the better off you’ll be. Donald Trump doesn’t understand this, not at all. Trump is all about Trump.
