After two weeks of negotiations at the COP30 summit in Brazil, the nations in attendance agreed to a framework that would provide funding to countries affected by climate change, but did not mention fossil fuels. Later, the group’s president said it would provide a roadmap for moving away from nonrenewable energy sources.

Over 230 projects, primarily situated in Democratic-controlled states, had their funding canceled amid a government shutdown. The Department of Energy said that the cancellations will save taxpayers around $7.5 billion, and that the projects were “rushed through” by the Biden administration. The department said that 321 financial awards were canceled, with a quarter of those approved between Election Day and Inauguration Day.

Work on the 80% completed project was halted on Aug. 22 by Trump administration officials. Nearly a month later, on Sept. 22, an emergency injunction was issued by District Judge Royce Lamberth. Ørsted, the Danish company behind the 700-megawatt facility, stated that it was losing $2.3 million per day during the period when it was ordered to stop work.

The single charging station with four ports was in the first phase of Ohio’s plan, with the second phase adding another 25 charging stations. The program is set to receive a total of $140 million within five years.

For the first time, global investment in clean energy surpassed new spending on fossil fuels. The International Energy Agency said $1.7 trillion would be spent on clean energy projects around the world in 2023, compared to $1.1 trillion on oil, gas and coal.
