YouTube announced plans on Tuesday, July 29, to roll out an AI-powered tool to estimate whether users are under 18. The technology uses machine learning to assess age based on signals such as video viewing history, content categories and account longevity, regardless of the birthdate listed in a user’s profile. If the system identifies someone as a teen, YouTube will automatically apply additional safety measures.
