President Joe Biden hosted a bipartisan group of governors and mayors at the White House Wednesday to push for public support of his infrastructure proposal.
“There are no Democratic roads or Republican bridges, but there are families in need of shorter commute times, safer commutes, kids need to be able to drink clean drinking water, that doesn’t have lead in it,” Biden said. “And communities need to have reliable transit systems and we have a chance to solve these problems.”
“And mayors and governors, you know how to get this done,” Biden added. “And what we have to do, it’s time to stop talking about it, it’s time to get you the resources.”
The lunch came on the heels of Democrats agreeing to spend $3.5 trillion over the coming decade on a range of domestic initiatives, including climate change, health care and family service programs.
To pass that bill, Democrats will need all their Senate lawmakers to vote on party lines in the deadlocked chamber, and they can only afford to lose three party votes in the House.
