Former Senator: Here’s how Biden is negotiating at the Capitol to save infrastructure, spending bills

Full story

Negotiations continue as the Democrats try to find a compromise for the $3.5 trillion spending bill and the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill. President Joe Biden took a trip down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol to lobby on behalf of the two pieces of legislation.

Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Krysten Sinema (D-AZ) have said they won’t vote for the spending bill as it is, while the Progressive Caucus says it won’t vote for the infrastructure bill without also having a vote on the spending bill, effectively linking the two separate bills.

That leaves Congress at at standstill.

Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND) served from 1992 until 2011 and was the Assistant Floor Leader and also the Chair of the Democratic Policy Committee. He draws on his experience to explain what is happening behind closed doors.
