Impressive new video: Storm creates massive wall of sand in China

Full story

Video captured Sunday showed quite the sight! A massive wall of sand formed engulfing parts of northwestern China. The video above shows the sandstorm, as well as, the aftermath.

The sandstorm hit the Gansu Province Sunday afternoon. In Dunhuang City where the ancient Mogao Caves are located, a wall of sand over 328 feet high moved from north to south and engulfed a nearby expressway within minutes. The storm turned the sky yellow, and reduced visibility to less than 16 feet.

Local traffic police imposed traffic controls at the toll gates. They directed stranded vehicles to leave the expressway and stop in service areas.

Meanwhile, there was a similar sight in Guazhou County. The speed of the wind there reached between 31 to 38 mph and the visibility was less than 164 feet.

The local meteorological observatory issued a yellow warning signal for the sandstorm.
