King Charles in Ireland, Inflation Reduction Act ceremony, final primaries

On Sept. 13, 2022, King Charles III will meet with mourners in Northern Ireland as the United Kingdom prepares for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral next week; the White House is celebrating the Inflation Reduction Act on the day new inflation numbers are released; and the final set of primaries are being held today ahead of midterms less than two months away.

King Charles visits Ireland – King Charles has made it to Northern Ireland, leading the mourning for Queen Elizabeth in the four parts of the United Kingdom before his mother’s coffin is flown to London ahead of four days of lying in state. Visitors have been paying their respects to Queen Elizabeth at St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh. The monarch’s funeral will be on Monday.

White House event celebrates Inflation Reduction Act – President Joe Biden will host a major event Tuesday at the White House to celebrate the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act. It is expected to be a victory lap for the president within two months of the midterm elections. The White House is expecting thousands of supporters to attend. The celebration comes the same day new inflation numbers are released, expected to show improvement but still at a 40-year high.

Last wave of primaries – Delaware, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island voters will hit the polls Tuesday, less than two months out from the general election. It is the last wave of primaries. In Rhode Island, Democratic Gov. Dan Mckee will look to avoid becoming the first sitting governor to lose a primary since 2018. In Delaware, state Auditor Kathy McGuiness, D, is running for re-election despite being convicted on corruption charges back in July.
