Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) will not vote to confirm Federal Reserve Board nominee Sarah Bloom Raskin, he announced in a statement. The decision means Raskin likely will not receive the votes needed to be confirmed.
“I have carefully reviewed Sarah Bloom Raskin’s qualifications and previous public statements,” Manchin wrote. “Her previous public statements have failed to satisfactorily address my concerns about the critical importance of financing an all-of-the-above energy policy to meet our nation’s critical energy needs.”
As the Senate is split evenly, Democrats would need unanimous support from its caucus to reach the 51 votes needed to confirm Raskin.
Raskin previously served as a Fed governor and the deputy Treasury Secretary in the Obama administration.
