Parents start petition to bring Halloween celebrations back to Massachusetts school district

Full story

A Massachusetts school district has garnered national attention over its decision to celebrate fall instead of Halloween during school hours. According to a letter Melrose Public School Superintendent Dr. Julie Kukenberger sent to parents of elementary school students, the change was made to be more inclusive to students who do not celebrate Halloween.

Parent Carolyn Finocchiaro has started an online petition to overturn the school district’s guidance.

“By signing this petition, you are stating that you do not agree with this and want Halloween and it’s [sic] celebration to continue in the elementary schools and the classrooms,” the petition reads.
