Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene targeted in Christmas Day swatting attempt

Full story

A swatting attempt targeting Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s home on Christmas Day was sniffed out by local authorities. According to law enforcement, a man from New York called the Georgia suicide hotline at around 11 a.m. ET claiming he had shot his girlfriend and was going to kill himself at the congresswoman’s home.

Police said as soon as the hotline recognized the address, the call was forwarded to local law enforcement. A spokeswoman with the police department said the department called Greene’s private security team, who confirmed she was safe and that there was no emergency.

“We determined before our personnel could get to her location that there was no emergency and there was no reason to respond,” a police spokeswoman said. “Her security detail had it all under control, and there actually was nothing going on.”

Greene confirmed the incident on social media.

“I was just swatted. This is like the 8th time. On Christmas with my family here. My local police are the GREATEST and shouldn’t have to deal with this,” Greene wrote.

Law enforcement also confirmed that Greene has been the target of swatting in the past, where callers report fake emergencies to draw a large armed police response to her home.

Greene was not the only member of Congress to be swatted on Christmas. Republican Rep. Brandon Williams of New York also posted on social media that he was a target of swatting on Christmas, too. Williams said police were investigating.
