San Francisco District Attorney Boudin loses recall election over violent crime
Shannon Longworth: One of the most progressive cities in the U.S. recalled its DA–for being TOO progressive.
It’s one result of Tuesday’s elections, which included a variety of important primaries in seven states.
In San Francisco, voters successfully recalled District Attorney Chesa Boudin.
Residents behind the recall effort blamed Boudin’s progressive policies for a spike in gun violence and other crimes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Boudin himself — he didn’t have much of a chance at saving his job.
Chesa Boudin | San Francisco District: “The right-wing billionaires outspent us 3 to 1. They exploited an environment in which people are appropriately upset. And they created an electoral dynamic where we were literally shadowboxing.”
Shannon Longworth: San Francisco Mayor London Breed will choose Boudin’s replacement.
