Judiciary Dems float killing Mar-a-Lago case to expedite Trump report release

House Judiciary Democrats requested Attorney General Merrick Garland drop charges against President-elect Donald Trump’s co-defendants in the Mar-a-Lago case to release the second volume of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s report on the classified documents case. Garland stated he will not release the report while charges against Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira remain, as both men face prosecution.

Nauta and De Oliveira, charged with obstructing the investigation, have pleaded not guilty.

Democrats believe that dropping the charges would allow for transparency and accountability, emphasizing that Trump’s actions should not escape public scrutiny.

Judge Aileen Cannon will hear arguments regarding the report’s release, and the outcome could affect the report’s availability for at least four years.
