Amazon removes seatbelt blocker device following recent high-profile death

An item on Amazon used to bypass seatbelt alarms is no longer available in India. The online retailer took seatbelt blocker items off its website after a driver died while using the device in place of his seatbelt. It’s a metal clip you plug into the buckle of the seatbelt. It turns the seatbelt warning light off and disables alarms that ping when you’re driving without your seat belt fastened.

The action from Amazon comes after a high-profile businessman in India died in a car accident. He reportedly had one of the alarm blockers in use. On Thursday, Amazon took the item off the market in India where they have the highest number of deaths on roadways in the world. It’s not illegal for these devices to be sold. Amazon took it off the market voluntarily but the product is still sold on several sites worldwide.
