The attention-grabbing white dress, designed by Aurora James, included “Tax the rich” in red letters across its back.
Reports confirm an individual Met Gala ticket costs $30,000, and some social media users took issue with Rep. Ocasio-Cortez spreading her “Tax the rich” message while attending and appearing to enjoy the expensive event herself.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez responded to critics through her own social media platforms, writing, “NYC elected officials are regularly invited to and attend the Met due to our responsibilities in overseeing our city’s cultural institutions that serve the public.”
