Shannon Longworth:
The Biden Administration is adding to the border wall between the US and Mexico.
By approving the move today, President Biden contradicted his campaign pledge to cease work on the wall.
This is him in 2020–
President Joe Biden:
“There will not be another foot of wall constructed on my administration”
Shannon Longworth:
This project will focus specifically on an open area in southern Arizona—near Yuma.
With four gaps in the wall, it’s one of the busiest spots for migrants to cross.
Democratic Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona had written to Biden about closing these gaps.
Sen. Mark Kelly:
“It doesn’t make sense to have miles of border wall in one direction and miles in another direction and a 60 foot gap. Or in some cases even bigger than that. There’s 4 and I’ve seen em all. this is an operational challenge for border patrol. “
Shannon Longworth:
The Department of Homeland Security released a statement, saying the area presents a safety concern, as people crossing there can slip down a slope or drown walking through the Colorado River.
The funding will come out of the Homeland Security’s budget.
