The mystery surrounding actor-comedian Bob Saget’s cause of death last month has been cleared up. His family released a statement Wednesday saying “the authorities have determined that Bob passed from head trauma.”
“They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep,” the family said in the statement, according to this tweet from NBC News reporter Chris Pollone. “No drugs or alcohol were involved.”
In the statement, the family went on to say it has “been overwhelmed with the incredible outpouring of love from Bob’s fans” over the last month since his death. The family said the fan support “has been a great comfort to us and for which we are eternally grateful.”
Saget’s death came as a shock to many, with his cause of death a mystery considering the fact that he was in the middle of a standup comedy tour at the time of his death, and authorities reported no foul play involved. At the time, the only thing authorities said was “deputies were called to the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes for a call about an unresponsive man in a hotel room. The man was identified as Robert Saget & pronounced deceased on scene.”
